Hey Y'all!
Happy 2013 and Welcome to all of our *New* and Existing coupon friends!
I have had a lot of friends approach me in the last couple of days about couponing and how I go about it to save a little money. I figured it's a new year, so why not start it off right with some money saving tips and tricks!
Couponing is a multi faced game to me. There is no right or wrong way to do it as long as you save money in the end. There are a few things you should know about what to expect and what not to expect on this journey. This leads me to our first step in couponing : A Coupon Buddy.
Now, some folks may be thinking of a thousand and five other ways to start couponing and are forming an opinion on this whole thing. I promise folks, there is a method to my madness. Allow me to explain why a Coupon Buddy is imperative to your money saving success.
A. A Coupon Buddy is in it with you. This is a person who has discovered the same magic of coupons and is just as desperate as you are to try a turn at it.
B. Your Coupon Buddy is your cheering squad, your sounding board, your backup if you are out of town and miss picking up your weekend paper(s).
C. You are Your Coupon Buddys cheering squad, sounding board and backup plan!
D. Two heads are always better than one! You can not be in all places at one time to catch every deal and you are bound to miss one or two sales on toothpaste and toilet paper. While you are at work, your Coupon Buddy may have taken an extended lunch break and stumbled upon a 75% off sale at your favorite store.
I ♡ when I see a couple of couponers hashing out the deals together in the middle of the grocery isle! It says a lot to see two or more of you out there putting two and two together to save money. In my experience, couponers are typically the folks who will help you get an item off the top shelf, guide a parent/ child to the store restroom, or even direct you back to isle 5 for the Velveeta even though you just spent 10 minutes staring at that isle with no luck in finding that mystery cheese. My personal coupon habit is eves dropping on the shoppers cart either behind or ahead of me in line. If you are getting an item that I know I have a coupon for, it's almost a guarantee that I will have that coupon in your cashiers hand before you check out.
I was shopping in HT in Leland the other night an came across two couponers, Mrs. Barnhill (left) and Mrs. Grissett (right). They were so nice to stop and chat with me and pose for our Coupon Buddy segment this week :) I was immediately drawn to their neatly organized binders and the fact that they were shopping together. Mrs. Barnhill said she has been couponing since the 1970's and always has her Coupon Buddy, Mrs. Grissett with her! They brought up a very valid point in that "Couponing" is about helping each other and you can not set a price on the skills that you gain when you learn to coupon and save money. I love that Mrs. Grissett said she loves shopping with her buddy because they can always spot a good deal together, and it's like the deals just jump into their cart!
Next post, we will discuss the value of a Price Book and how this could save you from potentially over spending on a "good deal" advertised price or gimmick buy.
